Drive & Discipline over Motivation

Lately I’ve felt quite out of focus of my aesthetic goals. Why? Most likely because my body has been put through the wringer via surgeries (abdominoplasty & diastis repair, wisdom extraction) and recoveries. I could be hard on myself and criticize my body for the muscle loss and the lack of strength — OR I could take the time to practice some self love and ease my body back into my routine.

I realized this month that it isn’t motivation that is the most important thing when it comes to health and fitness, but rather drive and discipline. Discipline is what gets me out of bed at 6am to workout, discipline is what makes me choose the grilled over fried options, its what allows me to stick to my goals even when it’s the last thing I want to do. My drive, although similar to motivation, is what keeps me pushing forward during a tough run or a hard lifting session. It’s what forces me to dig deep and push through things, not because I’m motivated but because I innately want to do better than I did before.

Right now my life is all over the map, job hunting, easing back into the gym, my social calendar, extra entrepreneurial projects, etc. It’s hectic but I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t look within to my resilience and remind myself that I can do anything I set my mind to. That no matter what, I will get through it all because I will work until I accomplish my goals, and then smash them and set new ones. So here’s your friendly reminder that you can do ANYTHING you want to. I believe in you, so it’s time you start believing in yourself.
